Don’t Neglect the Deck
During the harsh winter seasons we tend to get a little snow, or, in some areas… a lot of snow!
Of course we keep our driveways and walkways cleared of snow because we use them daily. But do we include the thought of clearing the snow off of our decks? Our beautiful decks!
Our decks bring us so much joy during the warm summer months - family gatherings, summer sun, the great outdoors. Unfortunately, our deck’s maintenance gets completely overlooked during the winter months. And Mother Nature is always at work!
We all know that in order to preserve the value of our decks, routine maintenance is required (ie. washing, staining, repairing and replacing boards and steps).
Did you know that by simply keeping the snow off of the deck, you can extend its longevity and minimize costly repairs in the future?
That’s right!
So, the next time that you have snow buildup on your deck, have your service company remove it for you, or grab a shovel and do it yourself. Always shovel parallel with the boards and avoid adding salt or other snow/ice removal products, just get that snow off of it.
This tip will help in preventing costly wood replacement and minimize your future maintenance/upkeep costs.
Shoot us a message if you have any questions or concerns about your deck’s upkeep.
