Proper Bathroom Ventilation & Paint

All too often when painting or remodeling a customer’s bathroom we discover bothersome moisture issues. Many of which are not seen with the naked eye, yet can be dangerous to your family and pets.

This is usually due to one or both of the following factors: improper ventilation or incorrect paint coatings.

Factor 1: Ventilation

We cannot stress enough how important proper ventilation is to maintaining a clean, healthy and fresh bathroom.
Your exhaust fan should always be venting directly to the outside of your home. We’ve seen them vented into attic spaces, or sometimes there are not any fans at all.

Another important tip is to periodically clean the inside of your fan. Turn your fan switch off, remove the cover and wipe/vacuum away the dirt and debris build up. This allows the fan to operate at 100% efficiency. Also, keep that fan turned on after your shower or bath. We recommend approximately 15 to 30 minutes after you leave the room.

These proven methods will greatly reduce moisture impact, mold and mildew.

Factor 2: Bathroom Paint

We must always be sure to apply proper coatings when painting walls and ceilings. We can help you select these paints, you choose the colors.

Bathrooms are naturally subject to a lot of moisture. If the wrong coatings are used, moisture will penetrate your walls and ceiling. This will lead to expensive repairs that are caused by mold, mildew and failing paint.  We recommend paints that are manufactured using catalyzed epoxy to repel water. This results in the moisture venting properly to the outside of your home.
